Argentina and Japan review common agenda

Argentine and Japanese authorities held the 4.5.2018th Political Consultation Meeting in Buenos Aires on Friday (24) and reviewed issues on the common agenda in order to "continue strengthening the bilateral strategic relationship," the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship reported.

The meeting was co-chaired by Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi and his Japanese counterpart Kazuyuki Yamazaki.

This is the Second meeting held under the reinforced mechanism of Political Consultations, created by the memorandum signed in November 2016 during the visit of the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, to Argentina.

The mechanism "has proven to be a useful instrument for continuing to strengthen the strategic relationship between the two countries," the Argentine Foreign Ministry said.

The Deputy Foreign Ministers stressed "the excellent level of bilateral relations" and expressed their commitment to "deepen the strategic partnership that unites the two States, highlighting that this year marks the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations".

The upcoming high-level Japanese visits to the Group of Twenty (G20), whose rotating presidency is held by Argentina this year, "will help to continue expanding and deepening political, economic, commercial and investment exchanges," the Argentine ministry added.

In Argentina, the fifth largest exporter to Japan in Latin America, there are 74 Japanese companies operating in bilateral trade that reached 1.694 billion dollars in 2017.

Argentina aims to access the Japanese market with more products, including meat and fruit.
