The Ministers of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas, and of Agriculture, Julián Domínguez, met this Monday (18.04.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) with their counterparts for Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries of Ecuador, Julio José Prado Lucio-Paredes, with whom they agreed to carry out initiatives that allow for increased trade and complementarity in different productive sectors.
The meeting took place within the framework of the first official visit to the country by the President of the Republic of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso Mendoza, and the meeting was also attended by the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cecilia Todesca Bocco, and the Secretary of Industry, Knowledge Economy and Foreign Trade Management, Ariel Schale.
The authorities highlighted the dynamism of bilateral trade in 2021 and the opportunities that exist for its growth and diversification, especially in value-added sectors that offer significant potential for economic complementarity and productive linkages.
In this regard, the potential for increasing the exchange of sectors such as food, machinery and equipment for industry, technology for the agricultural sector, medicines and knowledge-based services.
During the meeting, they agreed to carry out promotional actions to consolidate a cluster with the aim of developing suppliers for the mining, oil and gas sector.
They also emphasized the importance of Advance sanitary and phytosanitary negotiations with the aim of facilitating food trade, such as cocoa, tuna, banana, meat, whey and citrus fruits.
Integration and Mercosur
In turn, they agreed on Promote negotiations between Mercosur and Ecuador in order to deepen the Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE59), strengthen economic integration, promote the exchange of goods and resume the tariff reduction schedule, such as case of motor vehicless.
The productive portfolio also highlighted the existing potential for the development of renewable energy projects, including the technological capabilities that IMPSA has to provide key components for the generation of hydroelectric energy, among others.
They also agreed to increase and facilitate the implementation of joint cooperation projects and programmes in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture through technical assistance, training, promotion of good practices and the encouragement of investments.
Finally, the authorities agreed to establish a permanent dialogue with the aim of promoting the increase and diversification of bilateral trade in value-added products, for which they committed to organizing reverse trade missions in sectors of the economy with potential for the development of productive chains.
