Argentina and Chile agreed on the need to advance joint projects for the development of lithium and agreed to hold a future meeting of the presidents of both countries and Bolivia to discuss the issue.
This was one of the points addressed in the meeting held on Friday (22.07.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) in Buenos Aires between the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, and his Chilean counterpart, Antonia Urrejola, where both applied as "strategic" el development of the lithium value chain putting the focus on the triangle Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.
"With the idea of generating a common governance strategy on lithium, both foreign ministers agreed to a future trilateral presidential meeting to make progress on this issue," the Argentine Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On this occasion, the officials discussed the guidelines for future joint cooperation and highlighted the importance of value addition, environmental and social governance, and the training and development of human resources, in line with the recent formation of the Binational Working Group on Lithium and Salt Flats.
Chile has expressed its interest in learning about the Argentine experience of YPF Litio, which aims to integrate the entire mineral value chain.
In a meeting held today at the San Martín Palace, both foreign ministers also discussed the bilateral political, economic and trade agenda, and made special progress on energy and mining issues.

Integrated border control
At the meeting they also considered it necessary continue to promote greater physical border integration and highlighted the recent holding of the Meeting on Integrated Controls, the Optimization Commission of the Cristo Redentor System Pass and the Atacalar Integration Committee, a binational integration instance that brings together several provinces on both sides of the Cordillera.
