The Argentine Customs Directorate General informed Paraguay on Tuesday (27.11.2017) that it will apply new control criteria, which will make scanning of containers coming from or leaving Paraguay more flexible, the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
Argentina made this decision after numerous talks between the two countries in which Paraguay sought to end the supervision applied to its goods for "security reasons" and which caused "inconveniences due to delays" and "extra costs" for Paraguayan cargo retained in Argentine customs.
These restrictions motivated migration to Uruguayan ports and affected Paraguayan competitiveness in international markets, according to Chancellery.
Paraguay also claimed in meetings with Argentina that during the four years this scanning measure was in force "no events were recorded that would justify its application."
The new criteria adopted by Argentina will allow for "intelligent selectivity control for scanned containers."
