Argentina recorded a trade balance of USD 182 million in February

Argentina reached a trade balance of USD 182 million in February, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec) reported today (21.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The result was a product of the exports for USD 5.230 billion, with a year-on-year drop of 18,9% in turnover, compared to imports for USD 5.048 million, with a decrease of 10,4%.

In February, Exports fell by 18,9% compared to the same month of the previous year. This time, the decrease was generalized in all items: primary products by 33,6%, agricultural manufactures by 16,4%, industrial manufactures by 14,4% and fuels and energy by 0,1%.

In imports, the economic use of fuels and lubricants decreased by 29,6%; the rest, by 28,3%, mainly due to the lower purchase of goods shipped by postal services; capital goods fell by 21,1%; consumer goods by 9,7% and intermediate goods by 4,7%. On the other hand, purchases of passenger motor vehicles increased by 8,3% and parts and accessories for capital goods by 2,8%.

The deterioration in the trade balance is evident. Although the balance was in surplus last month and contrasted with the deficit recorded in January, it is one of the lowest results for the period, according to data from Indec.

On first two months of the yearArgentina accumulated a trade deficit of USD 261 million, compared to a positive balance of USD 1.115 million in the same period of 2022.

In this period, exports totaled USD 10.155 million (-15,4%) and imports were USD 10.417 million (-4,3%).

Trade exchange had a balance negative with China (USD 1.250 million), Mercosur (USD 730 million), European Union (USD 593 million) and the block of the USA, Canada and Mexico known as UMSCA (USD 387 billion).

Meanwhile, Argentine trade was positive with Chile (USD 587 million), India (USD 173 million) and ASEAN (USD 45 million), in that order. (Foreign Trade Report, February 2023)
