Argentina recorded a primary deficit of $20.228 billion pesos (about 1.005 billion dollars) in February, 24,4% less than in the same month last year, the Ministry of Finance reported.

In January, the data had shown a surplus of 3.929 billion pesos, while in 2017 it ended with a deficit of 404.142,3 billion pesos.

The financial result, which includes debt payments, reported a deficit of 27.738 billion pesos, 7,5 percent lower than that recorded in February 2017, the ministry added in a statement.

Finance Minister Nicolás Dujovne said he is "very confident" that the goal of reducing the fiscal deficit to 3,2 percent of GDP this year will be more than met.

The government of liberal President Mauricio Macri aims to reduce the fiscal deficit from 3,9 percent in 2017 to 2,2 percent in 2019 and 1,2 percent in 2020.
