Argentina concluded the 5th Southern Triangle Meeting, promoting regional cooperation against illicit trade.

After two intense days of work, carried out the July 1 and 2, 2025, Argentina finished the 5th High-Level Meeting of the Triangles Strategy for the Prevention and Combat of Illicit Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean, Southern Triangle chapter, consolidating regional cooperation.

It should be noted that the event took place in Buenos Aires and was organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) through its Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DDOT), headed by Gastón Schulmeitser, in conjunction with the Argentine Ministry of Security, headed by Patricia Bullrich, and the Strategos Bip organization, represented by Juan Carlos Buitrago.

According to the official programming and information disseminated by the DDOT on its networks, after a day of intense dialogue between the public and private sectors, the second day —especially aimed at foreign delegations—focused on technical and operational exchanges, with an emphasis on strategies for preventing and controlling illicit cargo.

In that framework, Martín Verrier, Secretary of the Fight against Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime of the Ministry of Security, he claimed:"Strong institutional structures and effective regional coordination are essential to address the illicit economies affecting our region."

In addition, with the Support from the General Directorate of Customs and the ARCA team, the attendees made a technical visit to the Exolgan terminal, in the Port of Buenos Aires, where they learned about the control systems applied in one of the main logistics hubs in the Southern Cone.

The meeting concluded with a visit to the Customs Museum and a reaffirmation of the importance of a coordinated regional response, based on public-private cooperation, to effectively combat illicit trade in Latin America and the Caribbean. With Argentina as the host country, this edition—part of the Southern Triangle chapter, comprised of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay—has a preview of its upcoming event in Brazil.
