The Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) reported that high authorities of the Ministries of Economy of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras met this Monday (09.05.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) to follow up on the implementation of the Roadmap in order to achieve the full incorporation of El Salvador into the Deep Integration Process.
The Secretary General of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), Francisco A. Lima Mena; the Minister of Economy of Guatemala, Janio Rosales; and the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, María Luisa Hyem, participated in the meeting. The Undersecretary of Economic Integration and Foreign Trade of Honduras, Melvin Redondo, and the Vice Minister of Integration and Foreign Trade of Guatemala, María Luisa Flores, also attended. The technical teams of the three countries and of SIECA also attended.
They point out that the meeting was a propitious occasion for reiterate the highest interest of the three nations in moving forward decisively towards the consolidation of this process. “With this aspiration, Deep Integration contributes to improving the conditions of the three countries to increase investment in intraregional and extraregional trade, as well as facilitating the transit of goods by reducing response times for operations at the borders,” cites the official information released.
In 2021, foreign trade operations were carried out between El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras for an amount of $6,237 million. This result is equivalent to 48% of total transactions in the Central American region, according to SIECA. (Press release from SIECA)
