Customs and the Private Group of the Americas and the Caribbean signed a letter of intent on Wednesday (22.06.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) that allows for increased joint efforts to combat corruption in the region, the official source reported.
The Vice President of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for the Americas and the Caribbean (AMERICARIBE), Werner Ovalle Ramírez, and the President of the Regional Private Group, Alfonso Rojas, participated in the signing ceremony held during the WCO Council in Brussels, which will continue until June 25.

This first collaboration between the region's public and private sectors is expected to contribute to "establishing common lines of action in terms of ethics and transparency among the participants," the signed document states.
To this end, "greatest efforts will be made through the AMERICARIBE structure to coordinate (...) actions that tend to prevent and respond to conduct that contravenes current regulations in both the public and private spheres," says the official text.
In this regard, the development and implementation of a Code of Ethics and Conduct for Customs Administrations and for participating companies of the foreign trade supply chain, “that is adapted by each organization and reflects the types of functions performed within the organization and that allow for effective supervision and control…”
AMERICARIBE and the Private Group have indicated that they will generate dissemination and training activities on the subject for participants, in addition to other issues.
This vital contribution to ensuring safer trade was announced in May 2022, within the framework of the XXIV Conference of Directors General of Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean and was reaffirmed at the second Joint Customs – Regional Private Group Forum.
The letter of intent is a milestone in the public-private effort to respond to the challenges and promote integrity throughout the region.
