The National Customs Directorate (DNA) presented the progress achieved within the framework of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program and recognized 10 operators, including importers, exporters and customs brokers, who certified to be part of it.
The OEA distinction allows for streamlining customs operations locally and internationally, reducing time and costs. The program is being strengthened within the framework of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (CNFC), with support from the T-FAST project and financing from the USDA.
The DNA carried out the “Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) - Country” event in the President Hayes Room of the Paraguayan American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) last Monday December 06.
He himself was promoted by the National Committee on Trade Facilitation (CNFC), coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), with the support of the T-FAST Project, which is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
On the occasion, the National Director of Customs Julio Fernandez, said that the program was put into operation at the end of 2018. He reported on the expansion of the scope of the figure, going from being a customs program to a country program, incorporating institutions that intervene in Paraguay's foreign trade. On the occasion, it was also noted that proceeded to deliver OEA Certificates to the 10 operators economic sectors that have obtained this certification in recent years.
The opening remarks were given by the President of AmCham, Agustín Magallanes, the Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), Raúl Cano Ricciardi, and the Interim Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the United States in Paraguay, Johanna Villalobos. The Agricultural Counselor of the Embassy of the United States in Argentina, Rachel Bickford, also attended the event.
In turn, the National Coordinator of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation (CNFC) congratulated the work carried out by the National Customs Directorate for the implementation and expansion of the benefits granted by the OEA program, as well as the support of the cooperating agencies, since this is an important point in the implementation schedule of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Paraguay. This tool, established worldwide in the context of international trade, provides security and predictability to foreign trade operations, minimizing risks in the logistics chain and facilitating trade.
The CNFC is a public-private body, open to the participation of private sector associations and unions, which meets periodically with the aim of coordinating actions related to the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement in the country.
T-FAST is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented by the IESC in Paraguay. Its objective is to provide technical assistance to simplify, modernize and harmonize the processes for the export, import and transit of agricultural products in Paraguay.
