The National Customs Authority of Panama and the representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) held a meeting on Monday (27.09.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) to address the security issue and help through donations, they reported in a statement.
In the meeting between the Director General of Customs, Tayra Barsallo, and Nicholas Cole, Regional Coordinator of the UNODC Global Container Control Program in Central America and the Caribbean, some issues were raised requirements in terms of equipment needs such as helmets, boots, vests, communications radio for better operation, among other issues. In addition, topics such as the Security in courier shipments, the movement of containers, the importance of Panama in the retention of drugs in the sector, as well as training, progress and needs for better control in ports, specifically in relation to Panamanian exports.
The Panama Customs team suggested that the UNODC representative present a diagnosis of the most important requirements to be donated to the entity or make visits to the sites, to see the most urgent needs and determine the necessary support.
It should be noted that the Container Control Program aims to increase the capacity of countries seeking to improve trade security, facilitation standards and border controls to prevent drug trafficking and other illicit activities.
