La Regional Vice-Presidency of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for the Americas and the Caribbean reported that an activity was held on Wednesday (20.07.2022) to strengthen the capacities of customs administrations in the implementation of risk management, an instrument of commercial efficiency.
The Workshop entitled “Brazilian Customs’ experience in using data analytics and artificial intelligence for customs risk management” It was organized by the WCO Regional Vice-Presidency for the Americas and the Caribbean, the WCO Regional Capacity Building Office based at the National Customs Directorate of Uruguay, and the Federal Revenue of Brazil.
“Risk management must be based on the strategic priorities of Customs, with advanced analytics and non-intrusive technology being modern tools that contribute to more focused controls,” said the WCO Regional Vice President for the Americas and the Caribbean, Marilu Llerena Aybar, to the representatives of the 25 Customs representatives present at the event.
Additionally, Deputy Secretary General of the WCO, Ricardo Treviño, as well as the Undersecretary of Customs Administration of Brazil, Jackson Corbari, emphasized the importance of capacity building through the exchange of experiences and case studies between Customs.
Brazilian experts discussed artificial intelligence tools that allow for the recording of merchandise transactions in import and export, feeding a database and analyzing the information in a highly technological and integrated risk management environment.
"During the meeting, it was possible to contribute to the implementation and expansion of the parts of the Regional Mutual Recognition Agreement of the Authorized Economic Operator," said the WCO Regional Capacity Building Office, this Thursday, it's a statement.
