Chilean Customs seizes container with counterfeit exclusive sneakers

More than USD 1 million in counterfeit sneakers seized in the Iquique port inspectors of the National Customs Service. These are high-standard imitations that were intended to enter the markets of Chile and Bolivia to deceive consumers.

The information was delivered by la National Director of Customs, Alejandra Arriaza Loeb, together with the Presidential Delegate of Tarapacá, Daniel Quinteros Rojas, who highlighted the work carried out by the Risk Analysis Unit and the operational teams of Iquique that allowed the selection and detection of this container as well as other threats in favor of the protection of the community.

The intercepted container indicated that it was bringing boxes with toilet paper from China to IquiqueUpon arrival at the port, the cargo was inspected with a scanner truck and it was detected that only the initial part had the declared load and the rest were sneakers, so an inspection was carried out that allowed the discovery of 11.652 sneakers, 336 t-shirts and 244 sports jackets with a customs value of US$1.056.047 and tax evasion of $262 million pesos.

La National Director, Alejandra Arriaza Loeb, He explained that “Customs is working hard on development, through the risk management, in controlling those illegal acts that are committed within the borders of our country. One of these is the smuggling of goods and also those that violate the norms of our country related to public health and security and legal trade.”

El Regional Director, Cristian Molina, He added that the merchandise imitates brands, models and designs from different companies, and can be found from the popular Adidas Bad Bunny to the exclusive Alexander McQueen, Nike and Dior. “They are high-level counterfeits from a visual point of view, but they do not meet any of the safety or materiality requirements in their manufacture," he added.

El Presidential Delegate, Daniel Quinteros, He indicated that this important procedure responds to government efforts to combat crime and especially the racketeering. In this context, he pointed out that there is special recognition for the work carried out by Customs, and proof of this are the investments committed to non-invasive technology and other equipment that will be assigned to inspectors in the region.

Regional fiscalization figures 2022

During 2022, the Iquique Customs has prevented the entry into the country of more thanand 84 thousand counterfeit products worth 1 million dollars, not only clothing items as in this case, but also technological products, toys and car parts that do not meet safety standards.

In the field of goods that can seriously harm health of the people the Iquique customs has seized 87.294 illegal products or those without the health certifications required by Chile, mainly food and cosmetics.

More than 1000 have been seized. 4 million de cigarette packs who evaded taxes for 5 million 800 thousand dollars and 520 units of products prohibited by the weapons law, including parts and pieces of weapons, ammunition and flares that, if it were not for this permanent work on the border, would have reached the neighborhoods and affected the security of families.

Regarding the detection of attempts to enter drugs Through the authorized crossings controlled by Customs, the entry into Chile of plus 1 kilos of cocaine, 2 kilos of marijuana and 445 kilos of ecstasy.
