The team Drug and Related Crimes Unit of the Los Andes Regional Customs Office On Thursday (28.03.2024) a truck driver was discovered transporting weapons, a laser sight and dozens of ammunition, at the Los Libertadores border crossing (between the Chilean region of Valparaíso and the Argentine province of Mendoza).
According to Customs, the vehicle had Santiago as its final destination and was presented for inspection in the international cargo transport area of the complex, where the thorough inspection allowed it to be discovered that in various parts of the cabin of the 26-year-old Brazilian driver, the merchandise that is prohibited according to the law was hidden. Law 17.798 weapons and explosives control. For this reason, the truck was also subjected to an inspection using the scanner truck's X-rays.

In this regard, the Provincial Presidential Delegate of Los Andes, Cristian Aravena, stated “… the need to carry out exhaustive reviews, since this occurred in the Los Libertadores complex at the time that Customs was carrying out the respective control.”
In turn, the Administrator of the Los Andes Customs, Mariano Gómez, stressed that “we are very satisfied with the work of our enforcement teams, who prevented these dangerous weapons and ammunition from entering the country. In this way, Customs contributes to border security and continues to work in coordination with the rest of the institutions to confront the various threats that occur in the context of organized crime.”
To this end, Carabineros supported the Customs inspection in the complex, while the Los Andes Prosecutor's Office determined that the evidence and the suspect were made available to the Brianco of the Investigative Police to continue the investigation.
During the arrest and formalization process at the Andean Court of Guarantee, the accused was placed in preventive detention and a four-month investigation period was decreed.
