Chile: Customs detects liquid cocaine in milk bags

-

Chilean Customs officials thwarted the plans of a woman who was trying to enter with packages of cocaine at the Chacalluta border complex, between Chile and Peru.

This is the first time that this type of concealment has been detected, since until now drug traffickers had used glass or thermosetting plastic containers to try to hide the drugs, the official statement said.

The unusual discovery was recorded on Island No. 1 of the border complex where customs officers asked the woman from Peru about the reason for her trip.

Given their obvious nervousness, customs officers carried out a special check using non-invasive technology and confirmed the contraband.

In this regard, the Regional Director of the Arica Customs, Hugo Yavar Oñate, noted that the role of border protection and permanent work “This keeps our officials alert to any concealment system. Added to this is the construction of risk profiles and feedback with the Sub-directorate of Supervision, which allows these detection capabilities to be generated".

Furthermore, Yavar added: “It is the first time that we have intercepted liquid drugs in plastic bags that simulated containing milk., since drug traffickers generally use glass, hard plastic or metal containers to hide liquid cocaine.”

The 8 bags contained a total of 3 kilos 670 grams of high purity cocaine hydrochloride, worth more than $73 million Chilean pesos.

The woman, the drugs and the evidence were handed over to the Carabineros OS-7 for safekeeping and transfer.

Meanwhile, the arrest was carried out at the Arica Court, which charged the woman with drug trafficking.
