Two Chileans and two Bolivians were placed in preventive detention after being intercepted by inspectors of the National Customs Service with 31 kilos 650 grams of cocaine hydrochloride. The discovery took place at the Quillagua Customs Station, Tarapacá Region, in the north of the country.
According to Chilean Customs, the drugs were transported inside mail bags filled with coca leaves.
El Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, said that the detection was achieved thanks to risk profiling and the use of non-invasive technology. “During the controls on vehicles and cargo leaving the region, our inspectors stationed at the Quillagua outpost selected a bus for an X-ray inspection. In this way, it was possible to identify the bags that were hidden in the vehicle and that contained the drugs,” he added.

Molina Silva also said that the bags, of the morning-after type, were full of coca leaves, "however, inside they hid 31 rectangular packages containing high-purity cocaine hydrochloride."
In detail, the drugs were loaded in the Chilean commune of Alto Hospicio and were destined for Santiago. The four defendants, along with the drugs and evidence, were handed over to the police through a chain of custody.
