The Argentine Customs organized a workshop dedicated to the fight against counterfeiting and piracy, which Officials from customs in Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay attended, reported official sources.
This is an activity, jointly coordinated with the World Customs Organization (WCO), carried out between the May 31 and June 2 in the Triple Border area, in Puerto Iguazu, Missions.
In fact, this workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation between customs administrations in the region to protect intellectual property rights.
“Customs is fighting counterfeiting and piracy based on actions and not words,” said Director General of Customs Guillermo Michel in his closing speech, according to the statement.

Guillermo Michel also stated that “Actions such as this, with the contribution of WCO experts to strengthen intellectual property rights, allow us to disseminate tools in the region to achieve results.”
For three days, representatives of the private sector also joined the training to make presentations. Seventeen rights holders presented the essential characteristics of their trademarks, as well as the techniques that can enable customs agents to detect counterfeit products.
Added to this, the OMA presented a global communication tool for customs. The Brussels-based international body says that the exchange of information, intelligence, alerts and seizures at national, regional and international levels is essential in the fight against illicit trafficking.
In this context, Michel then held a meeting with the Consul of Paraguay, in which they discussed the situation of the Puerto Iguazú – Puerto Tres Fronteras International Border Crossing.

According to the statement, the meeting – which is part of the joint work that the Argentine Customs has been carrying out with its counterparts in Paraguay and Brazil – consisted of a tour of the waters of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers, ending with a visit to the Ciudad del Este – Foz de Iguazú International Pass.
