Customs is preparing a three-day auction that Banco Ciudad will hold in Mendoza at the beginning of September.
While there is no list of items to be auctioned, it is believed that will be mostly electronic, such as high-end phones and computers, although there will also be vehicles.
So far, the date for the realization of The auction will be held on September 12,13, 14, and XNUMX in the city of Mendoza., although it is not ruled out that it may be changed if a suitable place is not found to carry it out before those dates.
Authorities They hope to raise around $6 million, a figure similar to that achieved by a similar auction held in June in Córdoba, where nearly $8 million pesos were raised.
Among other items, high-end cars and gold bars were auctioned off. The most sought-after items, however, were electronics, such as iPads and iPhones.
These items were sold for between $7 and $20, a much lower price than someone who wants to buy them in a normal store would have to pay.
These auctions are held not only to raise funds but also to free up space in Customs warehouses, which are overwhelmed..
These are products that both travelers and companies imported but ended up retained by the controls of the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), mostly from Mendoza but also from the San Juan Customs.
The reasons for the confiscation of goods in storage are diverse, and in many cases they have increased since the beginning of the shopping phenomenon known as the “Chile effect”.
Among them, the non-payment for exceeding the US$150 deductible per individual set for purchases stands out, which ended up in the Horcones Complex as a real filter.
Other causes are, obviously, merchandise that was attempted to be smuggled into the country; violations arising from a contentious administrative process and of course various imported goods that have not been nationalized, which generally remain in storage after 1 year from their seizure, without the process being completed.
