March 8: Testimony and reflections of a woman from Customs

-

As many of you know, March 8 is not only Women's Day, but also Working Women's Day.

It is truly a luxury to be invited to share my work and professional experience as a woman on this important date of commemoration.

I hope you enjoy reading these lines as much as I have, trying to convey my perception throughout all the years of my career at the General Directorate of Customs, which has been, from the very beginning, very friendly to “us.”

Since we joined the Customs Office, we have grown in parallel on a personal and family level.

Some of them, in addition to their work at Customs, have gotten married, had children, and enjoyed the benefits provided by the Agency taking into account their status as women (for example, special time to spend with the baby during breastfeeding).

The Agency was always there to protect us, train us and let us be who we are.

In my case, he honoured me by allowing me to reach a high-ranking position as the final point of my career.

My story in Customs is not unique. I can attest that many women who have set their minds to it have reached different levels of leadership. We have been given easier access to leadership positions, without any differences with our male peers.

Personally, I have been in charge for “many years” - I won't tell you how many - of various leadership positions, I even had the opportunity to propose a significant number of women to fill vacant positions, and when I did so it was not because of their status as women, nor because of imposed quotas, but because of their professional and personal abilities, all of which were up to par.

Although most of my time at Customs has been in legal areas and on a couple of occasions in legal areas related to the interior of the country, in the last stage I joined the technical areas, with the satisfaction of safeguarding the interests of the State under the fiscal eye of the lawyer and of seeking to facilitate trade as a customs technician. And the common denominator has been the possibility of forming teams that I still miss, because although I no longer belong to the Agency, I will always feel like a woman of Customs.

The General Directorate of Customs is an organization that has valuable women in all its areas: administrative, operational, legal, dog handlers, etc. throughout the length and breadth of our vast country.

My most heartfelt tribute to all of them!
