Delegates of the Customs of Chile, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic participated, between April 19 and 22, 2022, in the joint validation visits of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs, which are carried out in Montevideo, Uruguay, as a preliminary stage to the signing of the Mutual Recognition Agreement of the OAS of the countries of America, reported the National Customs Directorate.
As part of the activities, visits were made to the companies URUPLY SA (exporting company) and COSTA ORIENTAL (Free Trade Zone user) that are in the process of being certified as OEA.
“During these instances, the delegations were able to observe the development of the validations carried out by two different teams of auditors, the methodology used and the criteria used to verify the implementation of the Qualified Economic Operator (QEO) requirements,” according to the official information released.
The National Customs Directorate stated that “As a result of the activities, the delegations expressed the compatibility of the AEO Programs of their respective countries with the OEC Program of Uruguay.”
It is of central importance for internationalization that AEO programs are sufficiently homogeneous to generate the conditions that foster their mutual recognition among countries. For the private sector, this value is realized in the form of access to benefits and advantages in other customs offices; for the public sector, it means the materialization of a mechanism for collaboration and cooperation among customs administrations.Press release from the National Customs Directorate)
