Uruguay reiterated the priority of environmental care in the economy

The Government of Uruguay understands that caring for the environment is related to obtaining benefits in international trade and finance. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, by attending the commemoration of Export Day this Tuesday (26.07.2022).

In his speech, according to the press release published on the Uruguayan Presidency's website, Arbeleche said that the world is at a moment in which there is greater awareness of environmental care, sustainability, social factors and governance, which impact the flow of trade and investments at a global level.

On this point, he expressed the need for the carbon footprint to be measured in national companies, as well as the need to consider the conservation and treatment of natural resources.The way countries care for natural resources and diversity will have a major impact on trade, tariff barriers and access to credit."He said.

The official also specified that, due to these characteristics, the financial markets place a special value on Uruguayan credit and on the country.
