Uruguay will submit its application for accession to the Trans-Pacific Partnership in December

-

President Luis Lacalle Pou, together with Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo, announced that he will submit, on December 1, the application to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

This action is part of the international integration strategy outlined by the current Uruguayan administration, says the statement from the Presidency.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement currently includes 11 nations: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

To this end, President Lacalle Pou is seeking political support to take a new step in promoting his opening-up agenda, which also includes negotiations with China for a Free Trade Agreement and with Turkey.

It should be noted that Uruguay will hold the next Mercosur meeting on December 5 and 6 in Montevideo, when it will hand over the Pro Tempore Presidency of the bloc to Argentina.
