Dominican Republic signs customs agreement with United Arab Emirates

The General Directorate of Customs of the Dominican Republic has signed a letter of commitment with the Ports, Customs and Free Trade Zones Corporation (PCFC) to officially implement a Customs Management System.

The initiative will streamline logistics processes and reduce times and costs in cross-border trade, according to the Dominican Customs communication.

The agreement was signed during the Expo Dubai 2020 fair by the Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, and Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, in the presence of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña, and other officials.

For the facilitation of trade

Thanks to these tools, the Dominican Republic would have more efficient inspections, greater agility in the clearance of goods within 24 hours, and transparency in customs processes, which supports the strategy of turning the Dominican Republic into a world-class Logistics Hub.

These tools comply with the international standards of the Organization of American States (OAS), the data model of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Trade, among others. This agreement includes technical training so that the DGA can absorb the good practices and experiences of the countries where the system has been implemented.

Among the functionalities that this Letter of Commitment of collaboration brings is the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence forto perform predictive analysis and the ability to implement process improvements, as they are designed based on a modular architecture that facilitates the adaptation of their functionality according to market needs, regulations and trends. In addition, it will speed up the 24-hour Dispatch program.

During her tour of the United Arab Emirates, the vice president and the officials accompanying her will hold new meetings to promote Dominican exports, encourage foreign direct investment and strengthen trade relations between both nations.
