The National Customs Authority of Panama reported this Wednesday (18.05.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) that it will work with the support of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) on a roadmap for the development of the customs framework for Cross-Border Electronic Commerce (CET).
Considering the consensus on the importance of the digital economy for the economic growth and social development of countries, the initiative of the Republic of Panama will allow for the realization of a review of its policies and legal and regulatory issues regarding e-commerce, according to the statement.
The roadmap will identify and diagnose the lines of action required to jointly develop, with the public and private sectors and international organizations linked to Cross-Border Electronic Commerce, a strategy that includes as priorities: national security, trade facilitation and increased tax revenue.
The statement notes that to start this technical cooperation project, a virtual meeting was held between the senior management of the Customs Authority, consultants and representatives of CAF, which allowed details to be provided of everything that the work plan entails for the next six months, the duration of the consultancy.
On the national level effort, the Director General of Customs of Panama, Tayra Barsallo, he said: “It is an opportunity to establish a line of action that involves the private sector to maintain fluid communication in operational, logistical and governance processes.”
