Panama: Customs met with SIECA to continue the Central American digital integration process

-

The technical teams of the National Authority of Panama (ANA) and SIECA held a meeting this Thursday (07.07.2022) to review the progress of the implementation of the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC).

The meeting took place at the facilities of the customs administration in the capital of the Republic of Panama.

In the statement, the ANA indicated the General Director of Customs, Tayra Barsallo, led the meeting by welcoming the Central American team made up of Byron Bobadilla and Jaime Sandoval.

The official text indicated that these SIECA technicians will have meetings with the assigned persons from the National Migration Service, the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) and the Single Window of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

It should be noted that one of the main objectives of the platform is the interoperability of systems between government institutions, improving and optimising the procedures associated with regional trade.

In this regard, Barsallo said that the connectivity of this technological infrastructure "will be successful in facilitating intraregional trade and will allow Central America to enter international markets."

Similarly, Jaime Sandoval stated that the platform is a cross-cutting axis of trade to support the facilitation and exchange of data, the standardization of processes and the facilitation of Central American trade.

The SIECA technician pointed out that the necessary adjustments and security controls are being made for the implementation of the PDCC in the near future.

"Guatemala and Honduras are already in the implementation phase. We hope that Panama will do so by mid-September," he said.

The PDCC is an essential pillar of the Central American Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness Strategy with an emphasis on Coordinated Border Management. It is financed by the European Union, coordinated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and executed by the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).

The meeting was also attended by collaborators from the Logistics Sub-directorate, legal advisory services, the Authorized Economic Operator Office and the Inter-Institutional Risk Analysis Office, all members of the ANA.ANA Press Release)
