Werner Ovalle, Regional Vice President of the World Customs Organization for the Americas and the Caribbean, said this Wednesday (16.02.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) that “the WCO is committed to and supports Authorized Economic Operators” when speaking at the virtual workshop “Inter-institutional cooperation and new challenges/opportunities in the SAFE framework”, as reported by the Americaribe office on its Twitter network.
“The AEO program generates a positive dialogue between the private sector and customs administrations, establishes operating profit, promotes competitiveness and encourages secure global chains in international trade," said the customs authority at the opening of the meeting organized by the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism, in which representatives from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru participated along with specialists.
Having made this clarification about the voluntary customs certification program, Ovalle also referred to the added value of the Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) between customs authorities in the Americas. On this subject, he said that “the ARMs seek to strengthen the international logistics chain and improve risk management in our countries.”
Under this conceptual framework, he announced a transcendental action: “In 2022 we are planning to sign a Multilateral Recognition Arrangement, the first with the participation of more than 10 Latin American countries.” He also stated that with this strategic initiative, “an increase in coordination in the region is being projected.”
In this way, the World Customs Organization supports and promotes the implementation of AEO programs in the Americas and the Caribbean to facilitate and strengthen the security of the international trade logistics chain.
