The World Trade Organization (WTO) expressed concern on Wednesday (02.03.2022) about the crisis between Ukraine and Russia and called for a “peaceful and rapid solution” to the conflict.
The position was expressed by WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who said “we have watched this tragedy unfold in Ukraine with disbelief and the hope that it would have been resolved peacefully.”
On the seventh day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Iweala added, “We are deeply saddened by the continued suffering and loss of life.”
For this reason, he urged "a peaceful and swift resolution."
She also warned of the commercial implications of the conflict, “especially the trade in agricultural and food products and the increase in energy prices and their effects on affected populations,” Okonjo-Iweala concluded. (WTO Press Release)
