Mexico and Colombia participated in a Virtual Study Mission on Risk Management

The General Administration of Customs of Mexico (AGA) and the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs of Colombia (DIAN) shared a Virtual Study Mission on Risk Management and Post-Dispatch Audit. It was carried out in the May 11-14, 2021, as part of Global Trade Facilitation Program, a joint initiative between the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

This plan to improve customs capacities was organized within the framework of the Mercator Programme, a WCO tool aimed at achieving simple, transparent, predictable, efficient and coordinated border procedures.

The OMA explained that central objective The mission was to provide technical assistance to customs officials in charge of strengthening the risk management structure in Colombia, using Mexico's experience in risk analysis and Post-Settlement Audit.

So during four days, nine DIAN officials virtually witnessed presentations made by 26 experts, who explained the topic and provided best practices for the design, use and optimization of virtual platforms and electronic tools used for processing customs cargo and automated risk management.

In this environment, "the study mission allowed Colombia to identify key elements for Strengthening the capacities of customs administration in risk management, post-settlement auditing, cargo monitoring and general automation of customs procedures," the WCO said.
