More than 100 Spanish-speaking people received a workshop on integrity in the Americas and the Caribbean

-

More than 100 people from eighteen Spanish-speaking customs offices in the Americas and the Caribbean took part in a virtual workshop on integrity, taught by specialists, according to official sources.

The training proposal was promoted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and organized by the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Program, from March 7 to 9, 2022.

With the aim of providing an opportunity for participants to become familiar with the WCO's integrity instruments and to foster regional cooperation in this regard, the workshop featured panellists and moderators from Customs Administrations in the region and Spain, international organisations, as well as a group of WCO experts.

At the workshop, participants were divided into group sessions to share current practices and identify common challenges in implementing transparency and predictability measures in Customs. According to the WCO, the purpose of this group session was to focus on the exchange of experiences and capacity building, more specifically on transparency and predictability of cross-border transactions, which is key to trade facilitation and reducing hidden trade costs.

Such achievements require a cohesive and collaborative approach. In this regard, the WCO said that the main achievements of this workshop will be compiled in the form of a Roadmap to support participants with concrete ideas to improve integrity and foster transparency and predictability in this area. – (Note from the WCO)
