In the framework of the promotion of gender equality and diversity in customs, the Global Trade Facilitation Programme of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland (SECO) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) published in Spanish the Organizational Assessment Tool on Gender Equality, reported the Brussels-based organization.
The tool was presented by María Ortiz Bolívar, SECO-OMA Global Program Manager, at the Regional Forum on Gender Equality and Diversity.
According to the United Nations, gender equality is a key factor for the economic development of countries. Integrating this agenda into the work of Customs is key to economic recovery, as it contributes to making organizations and societies more adaptable, inclusive and resilient.
To this end, the The WCO tool enables Spanish-speaking customs to assess policies, practices and activities in order to identify areas where gender equality can be addressed as an integral part of the ongoing reform and modernization agenda.
The tool provides comprehensive and practical guidance supporting Customs administrations in implementing gender mainstreaming through project management. It includes a set of key principles, representing different areas of Customs competence. Through these, gender equality and diversity can be promoted, including employment and compensation, work-life balance and career development. Also, from Violence, Governance and Leadership, Customs Administration and Stakeholder Relations to Health, Safety and Freedom.
The Spanish version of the Gender Equality Organizational Assessment Tool was translated by the Global Trade Facilitation Programme with financial support from SECO.
The WCO is thus taking a further step in its intensive efforts since 2013 to ensure that gender equality and diversity are embedded in customs culture, policies and procedures.Gender Equality Organizational Assessment Tool)
