National tax collection in May reached 206.055,4 million pesos, reported the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP). Thus, the year-on-year increase in collection was 21%, slightly below the accumulated inflation in the last twelve months.

In a press conference, the director of the entity, Alberto Abad, also pointed out that in the first five months of the year the figure reached $989.934,2 million, which implied a positive variation of 30,9 percent.

When tax revenue grows at a rate greater than inflation, it means that there is a real increase in revenue to the public coffers, which may reflect the growth of economic activity.

The April data are a warning sign regarding the evolution of national state revenues, although the cumulative total for the first five months of the year still shows a positive trend.
