El President of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Sergio Díaz-Granados, called on Wednesday (28.09.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) to strengthen border integration in the region, during his participation in the Political Control Session of the Organs and Institutions of the Andean Integration System, held by the Andean Parliament in Lima, Peru.
“The integration of Latin America and the Caribbean is essential to improve trade, promote small and medium-sized businesses and revitalize border cities. This is one of the priorities we have at CAF and We are inviting all actors to join in to offer comprehensive solutions in infrastructure, regulation, trade facilitation, among others," said the leader of the institution, which brings together 21 countries and 13 commercial banks.
He explained the challenges that the region faces to improve the quality of life of the population and improve competitiveness. Díaz-Granados detailed in this regard the "productivity, climate change, food security, the gender gap, digital transformation, regional integration and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goalsand".
Arrival of new countries
The institution also presented a balance sheet for its first year of management, in which it highlighted the historic capitalization of USD 7.000 billion approved unanimously by the Board of Directors and the Shareholders' Meeting. At the same time, it highlighted "the entry of Chile, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic as full members, as well as the incorporation of El Salvador and Honduras to the development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean."
"The vote of confidence from shareholders and the arrival of new countries will allow us to double the size of the bank to meet the needs of Latin America and the Caribbean," said Díaz-Granados at the end of the meeting in Peru.
