Trade balance registered deficit in April

Foreign trade remains in difficulty. The trade balance registered a deficit of 1.5 million in April. $126 million and closed the first four months of 2023 with an unfavorable balance of USD 1.469 million, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec) reported today (18.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX).

In April, exports totaled $5.891 million and imports, USD 6.017 million.

The 29,3% retraction in the exports was due to a 22,7% drop in quantities and an 8,6% drop in prices. All items Exportables registered falls: primary products (PP), 55,6%; manufactures of agricultural origin (MOA), 29,5%; fuels and energy (CyE), 15,6%; and manufactures of industrial origin (MOI), 4,5%.

The imports fell by 12,6% due to a 9,1% drop in quantities and a 4,1% drop in prices. At the level of economic use, imports of fuels and lubricants (CyL) fell by 39,8% and other imports by 33,3%, mainly due to lower purchases of goods shipped by postal services (couriers); passenger motor vehicles (VA) fell by 28,4%; capital goods (BK) fell by 22,4%; consumer goods (BC) fell by 7,7% and intermediate goods (BI) fell by 7,4%. Parts and accessories for capital goods (PyA) grew by 3,3% and was the only use with positive variation.

Destinations

In this context, there was no progress in movement between economic zones and/or countries.

In April, the exchange was negative with MERCOSUR (-USD 714 million), China (-USD 658 million), European Union (-USD 236 million), UMSCA (- USD 30 million), in that order.

On the contrary, trade with Chile registered a surplus at USD 346 million, also with Maghreb and Egypt at USD 222 million and with India at USD 123 million. (Argentine trade. Estimated figures for April 2023)
