Customs prevented dangerous smuggling of more than 300 liters of fuel along with the engine of a pickup truck

The General Directorate of Customs prevented the dangerous smuggling of 180 liters of gasoline and 150 liters of dieselThe discovery occurred during international transit controls at the Triple Border.

The discovery began when a truck with Paraguayan license plate cdriven by a citizen of the neighboring country sHe presented himself at customs control with the intention of leaving Argentina. The agents of the agency asked him routine questions, to which the man assured that he had nothing to declare.

However, the passenger's answers did not satisfy the Customs guards, who, when they decided to inspect the vehicle thoroughly, discovered an astonishing amount of plastic containers containing fuel inside.

The man had indeed prepared his van for smuggling: a subsequent inspection revealed more bottles and canisters of petrol and diesel in the space surrounding the engine. The situation was extremely dangerous as the heat generated by the vehicle could have caused an explosion.

They also found more containers of fuel under the vehicle. The Paraguayan citizen had tied them up and put a fence so they wouldn't fall.

Beyond the risk it entailed and the initial concealment, the maneuver constitutes a violation of the baggage regime, as defined in article 979 of the Customs Code. It should be remembered, The aforementioned simplified regime does not allow the export of fuel, which requires specific documentation. 

The 330 litres of fuel were seized by the General Directorate of Customs, which turned them over to the courts.
