Customs prevented irregular importation of merchandise carried out by Courier

The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) has been detecting the improper use of the door-to-door private mail system provided by the so-called Courier to rbased on exhaustive physical and documentary controls that are carried out comprehensively on a large part of the Providers of such International Postal Services.

The action was carried out by specialized agents of the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP at the headquarters of the Ezeiza International Airport, and directly verified the merchandise at the time of its entry into the country, identifying a large quantity of products in infringement for non-compliance with the regime and trademark fraud. 

“The goods found basically consist of cryptocurrency mining machines, virtual reality devices, video cards, cell phone chargers, laptops and parts, exhaust pipes and car spare parts, hubs, electronic circuits and face masks, among others,” Customs detailed.

In addition, the agency reported that "the operations, which were intended to enter under the regime of Courier, were found to be covered by the Electrical Safety certification, CHAS and ANMAT, among others." And he specified that "cases of possible overbilling were detected, thus violating the guidelines established for the courier system."

Notably The products were mostly from China and the USA.

"The approximate market value of the merchandise in violation of Article 954 et seq. of the Customs Code amounts to 22.250.000 pesos," Customs stated.

The statement recalled that over the weekend, Customs had managed to stop another volume of merchandise worth more than 30 million pesos, bringing the combined value of what was detected in both operations to $56 million. Some of the products stopped on that occasion, due to their lack of verification by the relevant agencies, posed serious health risks. Among them were endoscopes, syringes, bags of serum and a tattoo machine.
