The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) reported that the “Operational Workshop on Risk Analysis in the fight against Counterfeiting and Illicit Trade in Argentina” began this Monday (24.04.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX), which will take place until tomorrow with a varied agenda of presentations and lectures.
The activity aims to train control agents in new risk analysis techniques, targeting-selection, and risk management techniques, for a better understanding of fraud routes and, in particular, those used to import and export different types of counterfeit goods in violation of intellectual property.
According to the Customs Office, this will increase the level of tax collection and also the protection of consumers and trademark owners.
La opening of the day was carried out by the Director General of Customs, Guillermo Michel with a few words of welcome, highlighting that “Customs has been fighting drug trafficking with a policy of actions and not words. This workshop has an international specialist from the WCO on Trademark Fraud for drug trafficking that allows us to give tools to our customs colleagues so that they can be much more effective in their daily work, such as the procedure that was carried out with the Federal Judge of Gualeguaychú, Hernán Viri, who in collaboration with the General Directorate of Customs, the justice system was able to carry out a simultaneous raid on the subject of trademark fraud for drug trafficking.”
There was also the presence of Christophe Zimmermann, from the French company SGS, security expert Dr. Diego Farreras, vice president of the Argentine Anti-Piracy Civil Association y Sergio Fragoso Rodriguez Moët Hennessy Expert, who were part of the organization of this workshop.
The two-day event will feature different specialists, who will explain the unique characteristics of each merchandise and each brandThe Argentine Anti-Piracy Civil Association, experts from Telecom, Louis Vuitton, Philip Morris/BAT, Adidas, Luxottica (RayBan/Oakley), Elemento, Syngenta, Nike, Victoria´s Secret, Akapol and Epson will participate.
Likewise, the agents of the Prohibitions Division will speak Trademark Fraud, to explain the regulations applicable to counterfeit goods, the latest operations carried out, statistics in the area and the training provided through the Campus for all customs agents.
The workshop is the kick-off for a "series of training sessions" that will be held at different Customs offices throughout the country, the DGA said.
