The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) announced this Friday (29.09.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the establishment of the Advance Affidavit for the import/export of fentanyl and/or fentanyl salts, with the aim of improving customs control in the commercial activity of this substance.
For such registration, the agency detailed the guidelines that regulate these operations of the aforementioned merchandise, which "is highly vulnerable to the unwanted impacts of illicit activities perpetrated by criminal organizations linked to drug trafficking and/or related crimes," according to the DGA.
In this sense, the decision is part of the Annual Plan to Combat Drug Trafficking of the General Directorate of Customs.
Specifically, the head of the Customs Office, Guillaume Michel He said: “With this new measure we are anticipating a problem that may be approaching. Criminal organizations that traffic fentanyl and its derivatives have a geopolitical interest in the region. These mechanisms will allow for better customs control and more effective responses to the new context, seeking a balance between security and trade facilitation.”
About fentanylFentanyl is a substance that can cause addiction, dependence, tolerance, withdrawal syndrome and death. One of its most potent derivatives known to date is carfentanil, which is estimated to be 10.000 times more potent than morphine. These effects require the intervention of the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) as the implementing authority.

This declaration will be submitted to the Chemical Precursors and Emerging Drugs Section of the Narcotrafficking Department of the Investigations and Procedures Directorate within the scope of the General Subdirectorate of Customs Control.
Meanwhile, the Drug Trafficking Department will take the necessary steps to computerize the process within 30 business days.
