El National Director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, met on Wednesday (24.08.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX), in Montevideo, with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay, Paolo Berizzi, detailed the official communication.
Paolo Berizzi visited the Customs Building accompanied by the Head of Economic and Commercial Relations, Counselor Damián Kaminski and the Political Affairs Advisor, Rossana Bonanni.
The National Customs Directorate reported that the content of the meeting was linked to commercial aspects referring to the Association Agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Union, Yet the facilitation of bilateral trade.
They also addressed control issues, particularly the fight against customs offences such as drug trafficking and crimes against intellectual property. For this purpose, reference was made to COLIBRI Project (sponsored by the European Union), linked to the Monitoring and control of general aviation to combat organized crime and the active participation of Customs officials in the training actions that have been carried out.
Additionally, Jaime Borgiani shared the progress that the customs administration has made in terms of procedures and combating customs offenses, risk management and controls that have been implemented, which have allowed the detection and seizure of merchandise in violation of customs and drugs.
The National Customs Directorate noted that during the meeting "it was agreed to identify possible areas of cooperation for the exchange of best practices" in the control and facilitation of foreign trade.
