Important corruption complaint made by the head of Guatemalan Customs

-

The Guatemalan Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle, reported this Monday (25.01.2021/7/2020) the crime of document forgery dated December XNUMX, XNUMX with his signature and seal requesting payment for penalties imposed by Customs, reported the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), the entity in charge of tax collection in Guatemala.

Ovalle's complaint, ratified by the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office No. 1 for Criminal Prosecution before the Public Prosecutor's Office, responds to the SAT's commitment to guarantee the efficiency of the Customs Service in line with the Institutional Strategic Plan and the dissemination of good practices in the field of the fight against corruption.

Along these lines, the SAT text highlights: “Once again we call on taxpayers not to be fooled by false payment requests or requests for deposits into third party personal accounts.”

Let us remember that the World Customs Organization considers that “customs administrations around the world perform a number of vitally important tasks on behalf of their governments and contribute to national goals such as revenue collection, community protection, trade facilitation and protection of national security.” And therefore, it points out that “responsibility for preventing corruption should primarily fall on the head of Customs and his management team.”
