Guatemala and El Salvador will draw up a strategic plan to facilitate trade

The Economic and Customs authorities of Guatemala and El Salvador met this Wednesday (07.04.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) to work on the fine-tuning and implementation of strategies that facilitate and expedite trade between both countries.

The meeting was held at the Pedro de Alvarado Customs Office (in Guatemala, on the border with El Salvador), where it was determined that "vehicles transporting goods in transit between Guatemala and El Salvador could reduce their time passing through the customs of these countries and to reduce the current 43 hours to an average of between 10 minutes and two hours.as”, indicates the official statement.

The information adds that "representatives of the economy, customs and single windows They agreed to establish a roadmap for the implementation of the vehicle registration certificate for cargo vehicles  in transit from Guatemala and the obligation to file an advance declaration.”

In this regard, Edith de Molina, Vice Minister of Integration and Foreign Trade of Guatemalaa, explained that with the new measures, transit time could fluctuate between 10 minutes and two hours because there are “peak” days where the volume of goods and the vehicles that transport them increases.

De Molina added that the next step will be to define a roadmap, which is expected to be announced on May 17, at an event to which the private sector of both countries will be invited.

The meeting was attended by Guatemala's Vice Minister of Integration and Foreign Trade, Edith de Molina, the Customs Superintendent, Werner Ovalle, and the representative of the Single Window for Exports, Fernando Herrera.
