Guatemala: Ministry of the Interior and SAT sign cooperation addendum to ensure border security

-

Authorities of the Ministry of the Interior of Guatemala signed this Wednesday (31,01,2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) with the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), which leads the Public-Private Dialogue and Cooperation Table on customs issues, an addendum to the request for cooperation. The aim is for the organisations involved in international trade operations to work together and collaboratively, in the framework of the concept of coordinated border management.

In the Main Hall of the Interior Ministry, the ceremony was presided over by the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez and the head of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), Marco Livio Díaz, accompanied by the Fifth Vice Minister of Antinarcotics, Werner Ovalle and the Temporary Superintendent of Customs, Edwin Curtidor.

The SAT stipulates that the Ministry of the Interior's adhesion to the table demonstrates the commitment of the public and private sectors in actions in favor of the customs system and foreign trade operations, in line with the best international practices promoted by organizations, including the World Customs Organization (WCO).

According to a government report, the work plan outlined by the Ministry of the Interior prioritizes five axis fundamental, in relation to the dialogue table:

  • Security Axis: Strengthening border controls at sea, air and land ports.
  • Support Axis for the Justice Sector: Inter-institutional coordination within the security and justice sector.
  • Democratic Governance Axis: Promotion of spaces for dialogue and communication with various sectors.
  • Adaptation and Institutional Strengthening Axis: Expanding and strengthening the knowledge of police forces and infrastructure.
  • Technological Development and Updating Axis: Development and updating of information and communications technologies.

Guatemala thus pursues its policy with a strong institutional connotation to achieve a common goal and, in this way, offer a cohesive governmental response to the challenges that such control entails.
