Guatemala advances in infrastructure modernization to facilitate trade on its border with Mexico

Guatemala completed the first phase of the “Modernization Project for Trade Facilitation at the Engineer Juan Luis Lizarralde Arrillaga Border Port", located in the department of San Marcos, on the border with Mexico, according to the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT).

Guatemalan authorities are hoping to build a train and truck terminal at the dry port to facilitate trade in the region and create direct jobs.

With inter-institutional coordination, controls are strengthened with a balance between trade facilitation and compliance with the law, said the SAT.

The volume of trade between Central America and Mexico is increasing more and more, and around 32% of the goods remain in Guatemala, according to official sources.
