Guatemalan authorities and the United States Embassy visited Chiquimula (east) on Monday (13.02.2023/176.8/XNUMX) to supervise the operations of the new Interinstitutional Control Post (PCI), located at kilometer XNUMX in the jurisdiction of the village of Vado Hondo, official sources reported.
The visit was intended to learn about the results of operations carried out at that strategic point, since its installation (29.12.2022) until today, the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) indicated in a statement.
In this regard, the SAT stated that the PCI in Chiquimula has seized merchandise such as fish, clothing and facial treatment machines. It has also detected that 144 migrants of different nationalities entered the country illegally, among other illegal activities.
Regarding this action, it is recalled that The Government of the Republic of Guatemala, with the support of the United States Embassy, has already implemented seven of twelve inter-institutional checkpoints within the framework of the work of the Interinstitutional Council for the Prevention and Combating of Tax Fraud and Customs Smuggling (Coincon).
The first inter-institutional checkpoint was opened in Pajapita (San Marcos) in 2020, and subsequently, those in Entre Ríos (Izabal) and Río Dulce (Jutiapa) were installed; also Pasaco (Jutiapa), Patzicía (Chimaltenango), and Sanarate (El Progreso). These are aimed at generating risk perception at strategic points of the highway network nationwide, through the interception, identification and confiscation of means of transport and merchandise that enter the Central American country illegally.
