The Government of Guatemala announced this Thursday (11.04.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) the signing of an agreement inter-institutional cooperation and coordination to launch the “Trade Facilitation Task Force,” official sources reported.
Precisely this inter-institutionality was established between the Ministries of the Interior, National Defense and Agriculture, Livestock and Food, and the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), the entity that will lead the process, said the SAT in a statement.
focusing on common themes, the “elite unit” will be in charge of issuing and receiving national and international alerts to track containers with Incidents that threaten health, safety and tax collection in the Central American country.
As such, "the group aims to optimize risk management processes through advanced inspection techniques and the use of non-intrusive technological tools, as well as the strategic and expeditious performance of analyses to control and facilitate trade," said the SAT.
It also establishes measures for effective cooperation between customs authorities and other competent authorities in matters relating to trade facilitation and compliance with customs procedures, in accordance with Article 8 of the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement; as well as the prevention and combating of customs fraud and smuggling, matters and crimes related to the control of entry and exit of goods at maritime, air and land customs.
The statement highlighted that the Trade Facilitation Task Force - under the coordination of SAT - has the support of agencies and cooperating partners such as the United States Customs and Border Protection Office and the International Anti-Narcotics and Law Enforcement Assistance Office of the United States of America.
The agreement was signed by the Superintendent of Tax Administration, Marco Livio Díaz; the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez; the Vice Minister of National Defense, Erwin Rolando Gómez; the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Klemen Gamboa; accompanied by the Temporary Customs Mayor, Edwin Curtidor and the Vice Minister of the Interior, Werner Ovalle.
