quality raw material
Argentine forest raw materials are distinguished by their high quality, evidenced both in their structural properties and their visual appearance.
This level of excellence is achieved through the systematic application of good silvicultural practices —such as pruning and thinning— during the different stages of forest growth.
These techniques improve the proportion of knot-free wood and promote the production of trees with better shape and size, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
Furthermore, it points out that the country's exceptional natural conditions, combined with a tradition of more than 60 years in forest genetic improvement, allow for higher growth rates than in other regions, even reducing the development time of conifers by half compared to the northern hemisphere.
United States, main destination
In 2024, Argentina exported wood products to 70 countries, with the United States as the main destination, concentrating the 35,7% of exports.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the main shipments sent to that market were moldings and sawn timber, both with high added value.
Overall, the Argentine forestry and timber sector relies on a legal framework solid and in development policies that promote its growth and modernization. Among the main regulations provided by official sources, the Law on Investments for Planted Forests and the Law on Minimum Standards for the Protection of Native Forests stand out as the regulatory framework that guarantees a balance between productive development and environmental protection. Also included is the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), which recognizes forestry as a strategic area, to attract investment and strengthen the sector's competitiveness.
This framework reinforces the dynamism and projection that Argentine timber exports exhibit today.
