Chilean exports fall 7,5% in the first quarter of 2020

The Central Bank of Chile reported this Monday (25.05.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) that the exports of the country totaled 16.890 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2020, which meant a 7,5 percent drop compared to the same period last year.

The institution detailed in a report that the The agriculture, fruit growing, livestock, forestry and fishing sector was the one that registered the greatest decrease, with 11,8 percent, followed by industry with 11,3 percent and mining with 3,4 percent.

Meanwhile, imports totals reached 15.158 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2020, decreasing by 13,3 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

"The The largest decrease was recorded in industry, with 15,1 percent., followed by agriculture, fruit growing, livestock, forestry and fishing, with 4,7 percent, while mining registered an increase of 4,8 percent," the report said.

He said that "the main products that contributed to the decrease in exports were copper concentrate, lithium carbonate and bleached and semi-bleached cellulose other than coniferous cellulose."

He added that "the drop in imports was mainly due to the importation of cars, with a decrease of 379 million dollars."

Regarding the destination of exports, the report highlighted that the main market in the first quarter of 2020 was Asia, which received 55 percent of shipments, followed by America, with 31 percent.

"Regarding imports, America, with 47 percent, and Asia, with 34 percent, are the main origins. All areas registered a decrease, with China, Japan and Brazil contributing mainly," said the Central Bank report.
