The National Government exempted books and complementary materials imported for the payment of tariffs and taxes. 49th Buenos Aires International Book Fair, which is carried out from April 22 to May 12, 2025 in La Rural, located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
This is what the Decree 288/2025, published today (25.04.2025/XNUMX/XNUMX), the text of which details that, as of this date, "printed books and those reproduced on different media (paper, magnetic, optical or electronic)" are exempt from paying taxes, as well as "promotional materials, catalogues, photographs, discs, cassettes, videos and stand decoration", classified under the tariff items "49.01, 49.02, 49.03, 49.04, 49.05 and 49.11"The exemption extends to goods "originating in and coming from the countries participating in the event."
The decree emphasizes that the fair is an event of "cultural and international significance," which fosters "technological, commercial, and editorial exchange" between countries, strengthens "cultural ties," promotes "reading," and consolidates the fair's position as one of the most important in Latin America.
Likewise, the institutional support provided by international organizations such as the Economic Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Chile and the Italian Institute of Culture - Cultural Attaché of the Italian Embassy in Argentina, which officially sponsor the 2025 edition, is acknowledged.
Fair Program
This edition, as reported by the organizers to Customs News , promises to be one of the "most vibrant and international in its history. On the way to its "50th anniversary as a cultural event", the Fair proposes "innovations, guest authors of 40 countries and a programming that adds more than 1500 activities«.
With "Riyadh, capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the Guest City of Honor," and writers from all corners of Latin America, as well as from "South Korea, Ukraine, Sweden, Slovenia, France, Ireland, and other latitudes," this year's Fair will undoubtedly be "an intercultural and multilingual celebration."
And yes, it will be marked by "the depth of the word and the celebration of the book," but also by debates around "artificial intelligence, the challenges of education in the digital age, and openness to multiple formats," according to the El Libro Foundation.
