This was stated by the Foreign Minister of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin, this Monday (28.04.2025/XNUMX/XNUMX) at a press conference.
During the presentation, Lubetkin said: "We are making progress on a roadmap that plans to expand our tariff-flexible lists to include up to 50 items. Last week, the Common Market Group held a technical meeting, where responses from several countries are still pending. This Friday, we will resume the meeting to assess progress and define the next steps, ahead of the Common Market Group meeting and the MERCOSUR Summit, scheduled for July in Buenos Aires.«.
In another section of the conference, Lubetkin addressed the ceremony where Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi received the credentials of new ambassadors. The first ambassador to present his credentials was the Argentine ambassador.
«It's not a coincidence —said Lubetkin—These are signals we're giving each other from both sides. It's unimaginable not to work excellently with Argentina, or with Brazil, or with Paraguay, but Argentina is among our priorities.«.
Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin and Secretary of the Presidency Alejandro Sánchez also participated in the ceremony, held at the Estévez Palace (headquarters of Uruguay's Executive Branch). Afterward, Argentine Ambassador Sergio Beraud, along with members of the diplomatic mission, laid a wreath at the foot of the monument to General José Artigas in Independence Square.
Sergio Beraud took over the position, replacing Martín García Moritán, who reached retirement age from the Argentine Foreign Service.
«Today, April 28, I presented to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Yamandú Orsi, the Credentials that accredit me as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay."Beraud said in a message.
With this appointment, Beraud will perform his diplomatic duties in parallel with his role as Permanent Representative of Argentina to MERCOSUR and ALADI, a position he has held since January 2024.
