Relations with Argentina are highlighted in Vietnam

-

On the eve of the arrival in Vietnam of the President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, local media outlets on Sunday (17.2.2019) highlighted the growth experienced by trade and economic ties between the two countries in the last decade.

In the period 2007-2017, bilateral trade multiplied by 10, going from 316 million to 30 billion dollars, and the intention is to raise that figure to five billion dollars in the near future., reports VNA, the official Vietnamese news agency.

This, he points out, is the highest value of Argentina's trade transactions with a Southeast Asian nation.

In Latin America, Argentina is already Vietnam's second largest trading partner, while it became the fifth largest importer of Argentine products.

For its part, the Nhan Dan newspaper, the one with the largest circulation in the country, published in its digital version in Spanish a commentary entitled "President Mauricio Macri's visit will promote commercial ties between Vietnam and Argentina."

The official organ of the Communist Party (PCV) recalls that after Cuba and Chile, Argentina was the third Latin American state to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (October 1973), and that since then exchanges of delegations at different levels have been frequent.

He also recalled the meeting between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and President Macri on the sidelines of the expanded G7 summit in Canada in June 2018.

Over the past few years, Hanoi and Buenos Aires have established various mechanisms and agreements to promote assistance in multiple areas, including investment, trade, agriculture, health, science and technology, sports, culture, education and training, and energy, Nhan Dan said.

Coming from India, Macri will arrive here at midnight on Tuesday 19th and in the following two days he will make a state visit.

On Wednesday 20th, he will be received by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Xuan Phuc, and the President of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

On Thursday morning, he will participate in a Vietnam-Argentina business forum together with more than 120 businessmen and representatives of the Argentine Rural Society who make up his delegation.

He will return to his country at noon, but will make a brief stopover in the United Arab Emirates beforehand.
