The sixth International Congress of the AEO Authorized Economic Operator Program concluded this Monday (02.09.2024) in Guatemala City, where the public and private sectors met to continue promoting the program in the Central American country.
"This congress has the objective of being able to include more companies, listen to the actors who are already authorized as authorized economic operators, learn about the experience of being under this program, which not only implies receiving the benefits provided by Customs but also generates order for the company since it improves its contracting and logistics process," explained the Customs Superintendent Edwin Curtidor Juárez in his statements to the press. According to the organizers, there are currently 213 companies in Central America authorized under the OAS figure, of which 110 are from Guatemala.
To support these public-private partnerships, the event had the prominent participation of Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Ian Saunders, who -virtually- disseminated the vision of this high body for the OAS of the world.
Additionally, a series of conferences and panels were held with national and international experts who discussed the following topics: “OAS in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala”, “The benefits of the OAS in Guatemala”, “The OAS figure: facilitating trade”, “OAS as a competitive advantage for importers and exporters” and “The future of the OAS focused on Small and Medium Enterprises”.
In this framework, the signing of an inter-institutional protocol between SAT and the Ministries of the Interior, Agriculture, Livestock and Food, and Public Health and Social Assistance, in order to continue promoting inter-institutional work and facilitate the transit of goods from authorized OEA companies.
The organizers stated that such consensus (or public understanding) is an example of the commitment of the State of Guatemala to a strategy for facilitating trade, as well as to improve the country's competitiveness at an international level, both in the areas of imports and exports.
